description This volume presents the first pan-Mediterranean panorama of Late Antique mortuary practices, combining and contextualizing an abundant dataset of archaeological and epigraphic evidence. In 17 contributions, a group of international specialists discusses funerary evidence from 14 Late Antique landscapes, in order to show the high diversity of microregional and local customs in funerary cultures as well as the significance of global trends. In this volume various new methodological approaches are applied: the materiality of epitaphs and tombs, their visibility, their accessibility, their perception, their setting within shifting spatial environments, as well as their crucial role within social practices. Therefore, this book fundamentally reshapes our understanding of mortuary habits and the commemoration of the dead during the transitional phase of the Long Late Antiquity.

Therefore, this book fundamentally reshapes our understanding of mortuary habits and the commemoration of the dead during the transitional phase of the Long Late Antiquity. 2023-11-17T08:35:16Z 2023-11-17T08:35:16Z 2023-11-16T15:37:20Z 2023 book ONIX_20231116_9783968222110_7 ONIX_20231116_9783968222110_7 OCN: 1410103837 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/85195 9783968222110 9783968222103 https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/121753 eng ger fre Kulturelles Erbe: Materialität – Text – Edition (KEMTE) open access image/jpeg Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/85195/1/9783968222110.pdf Heidelberg University Publishing (heiUP) heiUP 10.17885/heiup.1176 10.17885/heiup.1176 83eb0236-463a-4213-8a0f-dc16011f70aa 9783968222110 9783968222103 AG Universitätsverlage heiUP 616 Heidelberg open access
