description This volume contains the proceedings of the Study Conference held on June 15 and 16, 2023, at the Citadel of Museums in Cagliari, at the conclusion of the two-year research project TALKING STONES. Society and culture in Sardinia through the analysis of stone materials. An interdisciplinary path from ancient times to the present day, across archaeology, architecture, art and literature, funded by the Sardinia Foundation (annuality 2020). The project was conceived from the outset with an interdisciplinary approach in reference to a theme, that of stone, and a territory, Sardinia, that have united the activities of the research group. Stone, in fact, has marked and overwhelmingly marks the island territory, its cultural manifestations and related literary and artistic productions. It is the history of the island itself that highlights the indissoluble bond between man and stone. A bond that is strongly felt in the different historical periods, both in the daily experience of the individual and in a broader perspective as an instrument capable of conveying cultural and identity elements. The various stone works become a symbol of the populations occupying the island, as evidenced, for example, by the Nuragic fortresses, which still maintain the status of a true cultural marker of the territory. The volume is intended to serve as a point of arrival for research that is nearing completion, but at the same time it is hoped that it will also serve as a starting point for future projects on a topic of manifold potential.

Society and culture in Sardinia through the analysis of stone materials. An interdisciplinary path from ancient times to the present day, across archaeology, architecture, art and literature, finanziato dalla Fondazione Sardegna (annualità 2020).
