| Zusammenfassung: | One of Italy's leading Arabists, Giuseppe Contu (1947-2020), a native of Sarule (NU), trained at the Oriental University Institute in Naples where he later taught Muslim Law. Deeply attached to his homeland, with his return to Sardinia, he taught Arabic language and literature first at the University of Cagliari, then at the University of Sassari. He passed away prematurely in January 2020, the ISSLA-Istituto Sardo di Scienze e Lettere wanted to celebrate his memory with a dense day of studies on May 14, 2023, under the banner of Sardinian and Arab culture. The present volume aims, on the one hand, to retrace the most significant moments of that day and, on the other, to collect the scholarly contributions of some of his colleagues and friends. As an appendix to the volume, the last version of The Pre-Islamic Arabia, a work that Giuseppe Contu failed to finish but to which he was particularly attached, is finally published. |
