Περιγραφή
Περίληψη:This book provides an analysis of the political and intellectual positions of the Catholic magazine Criterio, one of the most important publications of Argentine Catholicism throughout the twentieth century, during the period between the overthrows of Juan Domingo Perón in September 1955 and Arturo Frondizi in March 1962. This work explores the different standpoints of the magazine in the face of national and international debates regarding the treatment of various topics, including interpretations of Peronism, the political system, the relationship between elites and masses, the role of Catholics in society and the alleged advance of communism in the context of the Cold War. In this regard, the book first examines the debates that took place within anti-Peronism between 1955 and 1957. It then analyzes the central themes of Criterio magazine’s proposal to re-found the political system within the framework of the opening promoted by the government of the self-proclaimed Liberating Revolution (Revolución Libertadora) in the second half of 1957. Finally, it explores the changes in the magazine’s perspectives in response to the perceived advance of communism, from the secular or “free” educational debate of 1958 to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
