Summary:The “Wiener Hetzamphitheater” (1755-1796) was the largest theater in Vienna until it burned down. The study is dedicated to a neglected chapter of local and European theater history by focusing on the staged animal fights. In addition, the study provides the basis for further research with 104 transcribed “Hetzzettel” (theater annoucements) in the appendix of the study.
