| description | In the field of political science, it has become common practice to claim the use of an ethnographic method of analysis. However, it is rare to find a precise definition of what this methodology means and entails. Therefore, this book primarily aims to address the use of ethnography within political science. In doing so, it also examines under which conditions this methodology, seen as quintessentially anthropological, has been imported to political science. Drawing on the ethnographic study of some of the main topics of political science, this book seeks to highlight the contributions of this methodology, while at the same time engaging with works based on political ethnography. What contribution to the field does an ethnographic approach to elections, political parties, protests, revolutionary episodes, or informal modes of politicization bring? How does this method help to grasp more accurately cultural policies in the context of their global dissemination? How can ethnography shed a new light on the study of the international circulation of political ideas? To what extent does an ethnographic methodology help to critically analyze the state, administrative procedures, as well as the various interactions between civil servants and users of public services? By exploring all these subjects, the authors of this publication also seek to underline that ethnography fosters interdisciplinary dialogue between political science, anthropology, sociology, and history. It thus reaffirms the very idea of social sciences. |
