Riassunto:Jean-François Lyotard likened the Holocaust to an earthquake of a magnitude so great, that it destroyed even the seismographs, which could have served to estimate the scale of destruction. This comparison has become famous and would often be referenced in the context of discussions on the possible ways of representing the Holocaust, which have dominated Holocaust studies over the last thirty years. In recent decades, many works have been developed which reveal the political, social and cultural dimensions of the Holocaust. The environmental aspect of this event, however, has not been sufficiently studied to date. In this book, the author stipulates an opening of Holocaust studies to environmental history, and their inclusion in current debates on climate change, sustainable development, extinction of species, ecological disasters, or climate migrations.
