| Sumari: | The three key words, ‘woman’, ‘history’ and ‘literature’, constitute a general and spacious framework for the seventeen articles collected in this book, divided into four thematic [parts]. Part one is an introduction into the issues of a female viewing of history and defining femininity ‘in its historical and national varieties’. Part two focusses on the heroines of texts ‘referring to historical events’. Part three is devoted to the Polish post-war female émigrés, and part four contains drafts ‘related to the female literary relationships, referring to important moments in history'. This composition, reminiscent of bricolage, has an undeniable advantage: it becomes a source of surprise. The non-obviousness of the juxtapositions might astonish, but at the same time it gives food for thought, which, by the way, is characteristic of most of the works and studies by Bożena Karwowska.
