| Résumé: | War and its Vicinityby Sławomir Buryła constitutes a part of a wider study of the topics of war in Polish literature, aiming at synthesising the issue. Today, Buryła is the most prominent expert on Polish literature relating to the war and the occupation, as well as the most active proponent of studying it in a comprehensive way.For at least five years now (the beginning of this reflection starts with Tematy (nie)opisane, published in 2013), he has been flagging the need to problematise the writings dedicated to World War II. He does so both as a future author of such a synthesis, and as a methodologist. (Dr hab. Marta Tomczok) War and its Vicinity refers to the aim of my previous books, Tematy (nie)opisane [Topics (Un)described], Wokół Zagłady [On the Holocaust] and Rozrachunki z wojną [Reckonings with War], in its idea of a holistic depiction of the unknown issues, or a renewed interest in the previously discussed questions and scholarly doubts, and situating those against the wider historical-literary, socio-political and cultural backdrops. |
