| Gaia: | This book brings together the proceedings of the study days “Bridges and cities: stories of an urban heritage”, organised in Bordeaux on 12 and 13 May 2022 to mark the bicentenary of the Bordeaux stone bridge. Historians, art historians, architects, urban planners, curators and heritage coordinators will be analysing the “organic relationships” that link the history of cities to their river crossings, through 17 contributions from over 15 cities, mainly in France. This is a field of research that has so far been little explored, and while it will be of interest to a specialist audience, it will also be of interest to the people of Bordeaux, as well as to planners, those responsible for current urban management, and a wider public interested in issues relating to the relationship between cities and their infrastructure. |
