Descripció
Sumari:The omnipresence of images poses a considerable opportunity for research on migration. Working with visual materials such as photos, film, video, collage, sculpture and so on can potentially enrich perspectives on migration and lead to more inclusive, accessible and participatory forms of knowledge. This chapter traces the origins of visual methods in general and then considers its suitability for studying human migration and mobility. Major strands of data collection and analysis are discussed, including their advantages and pitfalls. Guiding questions regarding the visual-centredness and the participatory nature of the research will help scholars position themselves within this wide range of approaches to visual methods. The chapter also points out key questions related to ethics and to research dissemination.
