description The study was born from an inter-university collaboration between Engineering schools that have been committed for years to promoting surveying as a fundamental discipline in the processes of knowledge and sharing of architectural, urban and environmental heritage. The object of investigation and research is the architectural complex of the Hospital of Sant’Antonio di Vienna in Rieti, built starting from the first half of the 14th century and expanded over time to reach the dimensions of an urban block that also includes the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, built between 1588 and 1605 based on a design by Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola (1507-1573). The expansion of the hospital irreversibly undermined the structural and figurative autonomy of the Church with the construction of the so-called Severi hall, built on one side to cover the narrow passage that separated the Church from the other buildings, and supported on the other by the vaults of the side chapels. The architectural layout of the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, like the Church of the Gesù in Rome, albeit with much smaller dimensions, represents the full maturation of the architectural type that developed in Florence in the late 1400s: a single hall covered with a barrel vault with lunettes and side chapels. The study of the metric-formal aspects that characterize the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate represented one of the main moments of the knowledge process that is expressed through the development of suitable representation models. Representing a space and the complexity of phenomenal reality implies a process of analysis and decomposition of the architectural elements that aims to find the key to understanding the entire building. In this context, this editorial product is intended as evidence of a research path constantly oriented to methodological rigor, based on a conscious use of the most modern digital technologies of survey and representation models, and a starting point for future in-depth studies and developments. It also pursues a cultural and social goals with the belief that products of this type can contribute to reawakening citizens' interest in the value of the architectural and urban heritage that they experience in everyday life, with the common strategic aim of their conservation, recovery and enhancement.
