Sumari:Alongside colonial administrations and agricultural influences, Christian missions were the most important external factors that have determined development in large parts of sub-Saharan Africa since the 19th century. However, they have hardly featured in geographical research on developing countries. Using the example of landlocked Zambia, where Christian missionary work only began towards the end of the 19th century, the effects of missionary activity in various areas are examined.
