| Tóm tắt: | For many in the jazz world, “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs” redefines the criteria for excellence in jazz piano trio playing. Rarely, however, is this comment accompanied by an argument. It is argued here that the success of this album rests on the combination of several factors: the skills and experience of the protagonists in an extremely wide range of musical styles; the circumstances of creation (two of the three musicians had never played together before); the excellent interaction resulting from the compatibility of the personal languages of three strong individualities; a repertoire that balances covers of standards, personal compositions and free improvisations. In short, a synthesis of all the jazz trends of the 1960s, which explains - in addition to the production work (concept-album, distribution, reissue, growing visibility of Chick Corea over the years, etc.) - why this record has continued (and continues) to exert an influence on several consecutive generations of musician-listeners. |
