Beskrivelse
Summary:Special Education as Policy and Practice deals with the Swedish school special education teacher and special educator professions from the 1980s to the 2020s. The purpose of the book is to shed light on the reasons for today's two professions with a special education focus and how similarities and differences between them can be understood. Another contribution is to clarify the role of special educators and special educators in 21st century public education from a scientific perspective, as the missions of the two professions are often misinterpreted and intertwined in Swedish schools. The book is part of a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council 2021-2024, "From Salamanca to PISA. The professionalization of special educators since 1990 from a comparative perspective". The research project focuses on the form and missions of the special education professions between the 1994 Salamanca Declaration and the 21st century's standardized knowledge assessments and international rankings. Other development trends that are noted are the decentralization, marketization and, more recently, juridification and recentralization of the Swedish school system. The second to fourth parts of the book are based on empirical material collected within the framework of the degree theses of special education teachers and special education students. Through the professional students' access to the field, this approach enables both access to a wealth of empirical material and greater depth in the analyses as a result of the meeting between academic and practical experiences. The authors of the respective degree theses are listed as co-authors in the chapters that are based on collected empirical material.
