Özet:The book is a collective effort to understand where the discussion on the security of societies in the Americas is heading. To do so, the authors took different case studies, achieving a nuanced perspective of the discussion in the Hemisphere. The journey brings such varied perspectives that include countries with a global and hegemonic vision such as the United States, together with others that have the obligation to think security and defense from collective frameworks such as Canada with NATO, countries that have the objective of being a middle power such as Brazil, together with others of apparently lesser scope but that today are protagonists in the midst of security agendas marked by migration, criminal convergence and cybercrime, as is the case of Costa Rica. Clearly, Colombia appears transversally in several chapters and has a clear raison d'être. This work aims to offer a highly valuable input for comparative analysis, where not only the perspectives of other countries in the hemisphere are known, but parallels are permanently drawn with the Colombian past and present approach. Undoubtedly, this work is an obligatory reference to know and understand the way in which America as a whole thinks and redefines its security and defense, which in the end is its strategic place in the international system.
