Die vorliegende Arbeit bietet eine neue Synthese der architekturgeschichtlichen Entwicklung der Münchner Residenz und ihres urbanistischen Umfeldes zwischen der Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts und dem Vorabend des Dreißigjährigen Krieges. Sie beruht vor allem auf einer erstmals systematischen und vollständigen Auswertung der schriftlichen und bildlichen Quellen und ihrer Kombination mit dem Baubestand.
