| description | This Reprint introduces readers to hydraulic engineering advances over historical and current time periods as obtained from the use of modern analysis methodologies. Water engineering in ancient and modern societies analyzed through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and advanced numerical analysis methods applied to ancient and modern water conveyance and distribution structures brings forward aspects of the historical and current water engineering knowledge base used by ancient and modern water engineers as described in several manuscripts. Further manuscripts discuss modern agricultural field system design optimization used to maximize food production necessary to sustain societal continuity. In current times, electrical power generation through use of dams with electrical generators supplied by water flows to turbines provides a source of green energy production- this a concern of current importance related to climate change effects on societal continuity from organic fuel combustion CO2 emissions. To address energy extraction issues, use of dam-related water flow technologies to facilitate green energy production is discussed in several manuscripts. |
