الملخص:The monography concerns the psychological and social effects of hormonal changes experienced in middle adulthood - andropause, which is the subject of social science research much less frequently than menopause. The main emphasis in the monography was placed on the biological aspects of andropause and the social and psychological conditioning of experiences in this period, considering menopause only as a context for comparisons. While characterizing andropause, attention was drawn to the controversy around the terminology and around the criteria for its diagnosis, as well as to various psychosocial consequences and changes in male functioning, including the quality of life in middle and late adulthood. The authors' own research, conducted with the participation of men aged 45-68, showed an increase in the intensity of andropausal symptoms with age - mainly sexual and vasomotor ones, and a relationship between the intensity of symptoms and the general health condition and lifestyle. The engagement in various activities, professional and non-professional, good relationships in a partner relationship and a positive attitude towards andropause and aging were characteristic of men with definitely less intense andropausal symptoms.
