Gaia:The subject of the dissertation is the cognitio symbolica in the preaching work of the Franciscan Antoni Węgrzynowicz. It manifests in the author’s use of symbolic structures (here senso largo, including allegory, metaphor and other structures based on analogy). There are three terms in the title: sources, applications, and contexts. Thus, „symbolic thinking” is shown not only as a creative technique (application), but also its genesis (sources) and the accompanying, not always obvious, contexts are described. At the beginning, the profile of Węgrzynowicz was introduced. His character is shown in a slightly broader context, incl. the family he came from, the city he grew up in, the numerous skills he acquired and the activities he undertook. His sermons and the opinions of his contemporaries were used in the description.
