description The article is an attempt to answer the question about the status of field and empirical data in the context of the research carried out on the basis of cultural anthropology. The text consists of two parts. The first is filled by quotations from diaries and field notes written by the Author during his research on the history of Polish anthropology after 1945. These fragments, similar to aphorisms, have been arranged in the form of an ethno-poem. Out of such mosaic of meanings and different points of view emerges a picture of internal diversity of the category fundamental for the practice of anthropology. The second part is an approximation of the concept of an ethno-poem as a tool for analysis and interpretation. The author shows here how the aphoristic excerpts presented earlier can serve breaking the „notes taboo”, which is a kind of self-censorship in anthropological literature.
