| description | The reader has the first complete edition of Canti Orfici made in our country. The translation has been problematic due to the complexity of the text that constantly hides cultural references to Dante, Miguel Ángel, Leonardo, Ribera, Ghirlandio, Durero and so many others. We have tried to respect all the structures used by the poet, although in some cases we have had to modify them in order that the reader could understand their meaning; Thus "Notte Di Amoe Di Viola" has been translated by "Night of Violet Love"; Other times we have had to add some commas or soften the hyperbaton. The translation has been based on the rigorous respect for the edition made by Campana in 1914 (collected in critical edition by Fiorenza Ceraglioli in Dino Campana, Canti Orfici, Florencia, Vallecchi, 1985) fleeing from the tendency to rewrite and invent a new poem, and also based on the need for the resulting translation to be understandable to the same extent as it is for the Italian reader, fleeing in this case of translation-interpretation. This is not trying to be a definitive translation, aware that every new reader, connoisseur of the Italian language, will do his own. |
