description In 1993, the Cajamurcia Foundation, together with the Dante Alighieri Society, began its Weeks of Italian Film and Literature: Claudio Magris was one of the first Italian writers to visit us. In those years, Marisa Madieri's illness meant that Claudio could not confirm his attendance completely, since logically circumstances could prevent his coming. He came, and in Murcia he met Marino Biondi and Giorgio Luti, mutual friends, who studied his work in depth with their respective interventions. After ten years, the Cajamurcia Foundation decided to dedicate a specific day to Claudio's work. His friend and writer Predrag Matvejevic, the scholars Ernestina Pellegrini from Florence and Lene Waage Petersen from Copenhagen immediately confirmed their attendance; of the Spanish, friends and scholars Álvaro de la Rica, Mercedes Monmanny, Francisco Jarauta, Manuel Gil and myself. From May 12 to 14, 2003, we all met around the figure and work of Claudio Magris. The actor and director Pepe Martín joined us, who gave a dramatized reading of La voces and Haber sido. Since then, many have asked us to publish these conferences. The awarding of the Prince of Asturias Prize to our author only increased the interest in these texts. Today, after the works read on that occasion have been collected, the Cajamurcia Foundation has decided to publish them. The quality of the speakers and the variety of their geographical origins - which makes it difficult to bring them all together again - give these proceedings a unique value that transcends the limits of our region and our country.
