Michelstaedter began the work as a bachelor's thesis work for the Faculty of Letters of the University of Florence. Before he had conducted mathematics studies in Vienna, to definitely lead to classic poetry and philosophy. The health dialogue, was written in parallel that same year, and reflects through a Socratic Parliament between two young friends, the author's intimate tension in front of the awareness of death and the ethical will to give existence an authentic, released form, releasedof the dependencies and pleasures of life. Both works were completed on the eve of Carlo's suicide at twenty -three years; Contemporary readers did not hesitate to describe it as "metaphysical suicide. "In the centenary of the facts, the current reader will recognize one of the most acute thinkers of the century; Also the writer who, as in the self -portrait of the cover to our edition, will never get older. |
