description The NEOMA electronic dictionary, open access and free of charge at: http://www.um.es/neologismos/, has been elaborated within the framework of a research project developed at the University of Murcia, involving researchers from both the University of Murcia and the University of Alicante. It is a necessary resource insofar as it allows the development of multiple applications, both in the theoretical field of linguistics and in its applied aspect, as well as being useful for any user interested in the new Spanish lexicon. Among these applications are its contribution to the updating of language dictionaries and the dating of words for future historical or etymological repertoires, although its main utility is to offer information about lexical units that periodically appear and are not included in lexicographical compendiums to certain groups of users: communication and teaching professionals, style correctors, publicists and, in short, any speaker who needs to find out the meaning or written form of any of the lexical innovations of our language. Also this dictionary, like any dictionary of neologisms, contributes to the knowledge of the trends in the lexical evolution of Spanish and provides data on the most frequent procedures for word formation and linguistic renovation. Consequently, given the international projection of our language, it is a resource of indisputable value.
