| description | This book on statistics applied to archaeology attempts to cover four fundamental points. A first basic point is to know and know when to apply different statistical techniques to our archaeological studies or related disciplines. A second aspect is how to use R in statistical analysis. R is a statistical programming language published under a free license and has a huge presence in the scientific community. However, it requires a high learning curve that can deter and drive away archaeologists or other scientists who are not well versed in programming. This is where the third fundamental point comes in. Taking into account the difficulty of this learning curve, the R package known as R Commander is used. This package is a graphical R interface that allows you to do an enormous amount of statistical analysis without knowing the base code that runs. In this way, the interaction of the scientist with R is considerably facilitated. The last and fourth point is that it is published in Spanish. Although there is a large literature in the English language, it is much smaller in Spanish despite being the second-largest native language after Mandarin Chinese. The reader of this manual will notice the almost total absence of mathematical formulas. It is not the author’s intention to make a detailed study of the mathematical basis of statistical analyses. Reference works are already available. On the contrary, this manual seeks simplicity, speed and precision in solving archaeological problems through the use of statistics. We therefore join what the fabulous scientist Stephen Hawkings so aptly wrote when he pointed out that there was an inversely proportional relationship between the number of mathematical formulas and the number of readers. |
