Whakarāpopototanga:The nine chapters that form this book are a reflection of the plurality of observations and ways to approach the study and understanding of the same social reality that is in permanent transformation. However, there is a common element that has motivated the emergence of interests in one and another group and that justifies the will of meeting and debate. We refer to the family, one of the most active analytical categories in the field of historical-social research today. More than a limiting fund, the family acts in this book as a possibility to the transmission of heritage, the role of women in the development of the processes of social reproduction of the distinguished status, the study of political oligarchies, episcopal elites, the generation of new iconographic gender canons, etc. All this has been ordered from three vectors that have allowed the family gaze to be provided with internal coherence: gender, transmission and social reproduction.
