Descripción
Summary:Born on one hand from the renewal of Renaissance Humanism, from which it partakes the penchant for the text and the authority of classical authors, and from the pedagogical program of the Society of Jesus, on the other, the Institutes of Grammar of Manuel Alvares, published in 1572, enjoyed considerable reception either along the time (up to the 19th cent.) or accross geographies (various European editions as well as Far East and New World editions). In line with the Ignatian pedagogical program the work displays an eager preoccupation for the didactic dimension which  can be seen in the search for a structure and an organization of matters that, notwithstanding the exhaustive exploration of details, look for the comprehension of the student and his/her receptive capacity.</p> Taking as its basis the augmented and revised edition the Jesuit António Velez published in 1598, this first volume containing Morphology aims to make accessible to the public a fundamental monument of Portuguese culture.
