Sumari:Currently, counterfeiting of medicines is a global problem that endangers public health and patient safety. in the city of Santiago de Cali, Colombia, where there is a wide network of drugstores and pharmaceu-tical establishments, it is crucial to assess people’s knowledge about the authenticity of purchased medicines, in order to identify possible gaps in understanding and promote a better understanding. increased aware-ness on this critical issue.this article focuses on evaluating people’s knowledge abou t the authenti-city of medicines purchased in drugstores in the city of Santiago de Cali, Colombia. counterfeit medicines are a global problem that endangers pu-blic health, and it is crucial to ensure that consumers are well informed. the study used a mixed research approach, with structured questionnai-res and semi-structured interviews, to collect quantitative and qualita-tive data. the results revealed that there is a general lack of knowledge about the risks and characteristics of counterfeit medicines. in addition, it was found that many consumers trust the quality of the medicines sold in drugstores, despite having little familiarity with the security measures implemented. these findings highlight the need for awareness- rai-sing and educational strategies to improve consumer protection and pro-mote greater responsibility in the drug supply chain.
