| Summary: | Refugee crisis — a crisis with tragic consequences for the populations swept away by the whirlwind of war and forced displacement, but also a source of serious turmoil for host countries. In this setting, where war’s violence and the pain of refuge take center stage, xenophobia and racism also come into play. This scientific publication seeks to shed light on some of the aspects of the multifaceted refugee issue. Historical references, as well as facets such as social stigma and attitudes toward the "Foreigner," form part of the introduction and the broader reflection. Today, the Foreigner, perceived as a threat, still plagues our society—despite the voices, collectives, structures, and solidarity movements that support refugees, which are by no means few. Considering, at the same time, the adverse conditions refugees face, the trauma of uprooting from their homeland, and the multiple impacts of the refugee issue on the global community, the primary goal of this edition is to delve into the social, political, and ethical dimensions of the refugee phenomenon. It views the issue not merely as a series of isolated, occasional events but as a significant social phenomenon. The chosen themes are based primarily on this understanding. |
