| Whakarāpopototanga: | The system of names given to one of the main characters in the short story “Boys” (1887) by
Chekhov was analyzed. The research of this system of nominations showed the influence
of nominative paradigm on the formation of poetics of a literary work. The interaction and
mutual influence of the short story architectonics, the poetonym paradigm and the context
resulted in revealing the main idea of the short story. The poetics of name and the author’s
message can be understood if both the writer and the reader possess a common thesaurus. |
