Zusammenfassung:The Amazon is threatened by new forms of criminality stemming from the globalization process. Thus, crimes such as the illegal extraction of natural resources and trafficking in drugs, arms, and people, along with the impact of these activities on the native population, pose complex security and defense challenges for the region. Additionally, the borders of the states that comprise the area require coordination and agreements between the countries' forces to act legitimately and legally against crime. Consequently, policies and strategies to contain these scourges must harmonize new approaches to security, as well as innovative practices in public management. As a result, effective governance practices, regional cooperation agreements, and fresh perspectives on security are essential to address the environmental security challenges in the region. This book presents these theoretical elements alongside reflections on concrete cases of the influence of transnational organized crime in the Amazon.
