description This anthology focuses on the transfer of contemporary French-language Maghreb literature and culture between the South and the North, drawing on the collective expertise of researchers from Stockholm University and Rabat University. The publication includes diverse theoretical approaches (socio-discursive, postcolonialism, decoloniality, Orientalism, intercultural and translinguistic writing, gender studies, and the sociology of translation) while highlighting new discoveries on literary and cultural contacts between North Africa and the West. Very few studies have examined the singularities and literariness of Maghreb novels in relation to the West from a cultural transfer perspective. Indeed, the interaction between Maghreb and Western literatures has often been studied in favor of Western literatures and has overlooked the cultural, linguistic, and literary heritage of the Maghreb. The comparative approach adopted in this collective's studies demonstrates the literary singularities of Francophone Maghrebi literature by comparing texts with new critical approaches or new corpora. The results of this research contribute to redefining and rethinking the role of early Francophone Maghrebi writers and theorists in contemporary debates on postcolonial and translingual theories. The contributions presented in this anthology are more specifically organized around the following themes: • Representations of the West in Moroccan travel literature of the 19th and 20th centuries • The Nordic perception of postcolonial Francophone Maghreb literature • The role played by Francophone Maghreb thinkers in the birth and circulation of the concept of postcolonialism • The relationship established between Francophone Maghreb writers and the institutional Francophonie • Approaches to translingual Francophonie according to Maghreb intellectuals • The significance of the idealization of Western women in Francophone Maghreb texts The theoretical works of Espagne (1999, 2013) and Gin, Goyer & Moser (2014) on cultural transfers provide the general theoretical framework for this collective project, which explores the circulation, transaction, and re-semanticization of ideas, concepts, and symbols between the Francophone Maghreb and the West. This book is aimed at postgraduate, master's and doctoral students and researchers who want to discover different comparative ways of approaching French-speaking Maghreb literature.
