| Sumario: | The Late Antique cities, are they really invisible? This volume contributes to research on cities in the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, and thus to the social history of power, between Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. It offers a selection of ten case studies from both regions, based on archaeological evidence, epigraphic monuments and literary transmission, for the period between 300 and 800. It pays special attention to the link between changes in urban space and socio-political structures, a process that is the result, on the one hand, of the material manifestation of Christianity and, on the other, of adaptation to changing external conditions, such as the establishment of Visigothic, Vandal and, finally, Umayyad domination. |
