| Summary: | Between balance and rupture, 1500s are marked by the “big discoveries”, but especially by an artistic, intellectual and technological excitement which is going to make tip over Europe to the modernity. In this context, the brutal capacity of the metallic balls to make breach in the wall is going to blow up, then to unify, the architectural answers of the defense. These often old-fashioned, sometimes effective answers to the progress of the artillery with powder - links of one inevitable evolution corollary in the inherent administrative, financial, strategic and tactical ruptures - show a big balance in the forms of war architecture produced.The field of investigation of this symposium concerns exactly the experiments led around 1500 in answer to this modernity of the attack. The various communications presented in this volume demonstrate that this movement of modernization is general to all the principalities and european states, even in the ottoman world, and even before the implementation of the strongholds system around 1530 which is going to reduce the costs, the fortification had standardized its practices to integrate the cannon. |
