Description
Résumé:In the first issue of Anales in 1948, Mario Buschiazzo emphasized “the precise, well-documented, and methodical work of the new generations” and delineated, within the Institute he had just founded, a new space of specialization for artistic studies. Many decades later, the Instituto de Arte Americano e Investigaciones Estéticas “Mario J. Buschiazzo” (IAA) maintains that imprint: that of having established a pioneering space for the development of studies on art and architecture from a rigorous perspective, emphatically distanced from approaches closer to the essay. This book delves into the institutional experience of the IAA based on a conviction of its crucial role in consolidating art historiography as an academic discipline and in the professionalization of art and architectural historians. The figure of Buschiazzo is a central axis, as are the set of institutional practices that took place between 1946 and 1970: editorial projects, the definition of Colonial Art as a programmatic object of study, connections abroad, inter-institutional exchanges, and the development of teaching and research.
