| Summary: | This collection presents a reflection on utopias and praxis in Latin America, taking into account the international panorama of economic and social crisis. In times of recession, the periphery of capitalism is more severely affected by hunger, misery, and violence than its center. This certainly motivates a debate on the revolutionary and critical nature of utopias through an examination of the praxis of important philosophers featured in this volume: Pablo Guadarrama González offers an epistemological reflection on concrete utopias; Mauricio Beuchot, also from an epistemological perspective, provides a philosophical view of utopias in Latin America based on his well-known analogical hermeneutics; Yohanka León del Río presents Hinkelammert’s critique of utopian reason, which dialectically considers the “irrationality of the rational”; Patricia Nakayama invites us to reflect on a “new” form of government—cosmodeliberation, inspired by Amerindian thought—as a critical utopia for our democracies; Yamandú Acosta proposes a new alterity in the constitution and affirmation of a “Latin American utopian ‘we,’” based on Latin American transmodernity; María Luz Mejías Herrera addresses the decolonial issue, relating it to themes of intercultural philosophy; and finally, Mario Mejía Huamán offers a reflection on what he calls the last Andean utopias, a study of the philosopher José Tamayo Herrera. |
