| description | In recent years, the debate on surrealism in Latin America has been rediscovered by academic criticism, giving rise to controversies and new studies that refuse to let this "very lively dead man" rest, as Julio Cortázar once called it. This book approaches surrealism as a possible library and as a provocation regarding the very concept of literature. In the critical-creative reading of artists and the aesthetic choices they make in their collage-books, Julio Cortázar and Murilo Mendes open up a network of relationships stemming from their avant-garde approaches, which at times align with and at other times diverge from the French movement. Literary criticism here sets out to dismantle the core mechanisms of surrealism in order to place the reader in a dynamic observatory of some of the less evident avant-garde paths in Brazil and Argentina. Throughout these pages, we follow a close study of the field of resonances and dialogues that surrealism inspires. For those interested in the phenomena of the arts, this analysis offers a sensitive perspective on the recovery of avant-garde ideals and their relevance in the formation of literary projects, as well as the dialogue they establish with their contexts. |
