| Summary: | This research examines the independence and democratic accountability of central banks through a comparative analysis of the European Central Bank (ECB), the US Federal Reserve (FED), and the Bank of England (BoE). The aim is to propose possible reforms to the ECB’s legal framework, drawing inspiration from best practices in the United States and the United Kingdom. Chapter One seeks to provide a comprehensive definition of the two key concepts: independence and democratic accountability. Chapters Two, Three, and Four analyze the legal frameworks of the ECB, the Fed, and the BoE, respectively. Chapter Five concludes the comparative study and outlines three potential future scenarios for European law. |
