Резюме:This book addresses issues related to the southern portion of the African continent in the adventure novels of the English writer H. Rider Haggard, analyzing their connections with the political struggles tied to the process of invasion and colonial exploitation in the territories that would later become South Africa. In the first part, the work discusses the intellectual trajectory of the novelist, linking it to the colonial experience and the conflicts over land in Southern Africa. Subsequently, the second part focuses on the study of literary representations found in four adventure novels set in the region, which helped construct a specific imaginary of colonial conquest. Thus, adopting a historical approach and engaging especially with the political and social history of culture, the book is dedicated to analyzing the relationships between literature, colonialism, and racism. It particularly problematizes the political imaginary constructed in adventure novels and the idealization of colonial society in southern Africa at the end of the 19th century, based on the formation of a white elite and the exploitation of African land and labor.
