While ‘writing women’ are almost a genre in their own right, represented in popular and scholarly anthologies, ‘male’ writing, which has probably shaped ideas of masculinity more than any other cultural practice, rarely receives historiographical attention. In a series of essays, the volume explores men’s self-documentation and autobiographical writing in relation to gender.
