Resumo:The text introduces the application of Norbert Elias’s process-sociological approach to gender studies, emphasizing its relevance in understanding gender dynamics over long-term societal developments. Despite Elias’s insights being instrumental in historical sociology, his work was slow to be integrated into gender studies, largely due to its initial focus on broader societal structures like states and class struggles rather than on gender-specific issues. However, as interest in Elias’s theories grew, especially within European academia, his approach to power dynamics and relational thinking became increasingly influential in analysing gender relations. The volume discussed in this introduction aims to document and expand on this development, showcasing how Elias’s ideas can be applied to contemporary gender studies, including feminist theory, and how they address the complex, evolving nature of gender power dynamics. The authors also highlight the necessity of integrating these perspectives into modern discussions on gender to provide a comprehensive, historically grounded analysis.
