| Özet: | This museum was not commissioned, turnkey, from a foreign specialist, nor was it purchased from one of the temporary exhibition catalogues that travel the world. We set out from the start to develop an original project. To do this, we sought help from those with more experience and knowledge. ... (In the process) we equipped ourselves with skills that we did not have, and we formed a group capable of creating and maintaining a Science Museum that was not dependent on suppliers and dealers. Our interaction with them, almost all of whom are nationals, is now as authors and designers, not as consumers. And that makes all the difference.

Universities and Laboratories are like different gametes of the same species. They may have different short-term strategies, conditioned by the well-known morphological specificities of the genus, some more inertial, others more kinetic, but they are identically indispensable, together, to any winning medium or long-term strategy. They need to fertilize each other by pooling the best they have, without loss of identity or
they have, without losing their identity or independence... I hope and wish that we can continue to intertwine our chromosomes...

Numerous episodes in the centuries-old history of Coimbra and its University intersect with the development, emancipation and progress of Brazil and are, in turn, clearly influenced by the intervention of Brazilian men and women and by Brazilian culture. Our collective imagination has a common corner. Men and women weaving destinies, Portuguese and Brazilians in life's wanderings and wanderings, today decanted in History, in memory and in legend. In a way, the University I represent is not only from Coimbra, nor only from Portugal. It is also the University of all those who, in the four corners of the world, love, think and write in Portuguese, this language that is our common homeland.
