Résumé:Reissue of the biography of Marceli Nencki, patron of the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2018 and celebrated the 170th anniversary of the scientist's birth in 2017. Marceli Nencki, one of the most outstanding Polish naturalists of the 19th century, dealt with issues at the intersection of chemistry and medicine, was the author of many works, including on physiological chemistry and bacteriology, worked as a professor at the University of Bern, and then served as head of the Chemistry Department of the Institute of Experimental Medicine in St. Petersburg. He went down in the history of science as a researcher of uric acid biosynthesis, co-discoverer of the structure of heme, and the similarities between the structure of chlorophyll and hemoglobin.
