Jahrhundert grundlegend verändert haben. Der Rahmen ist globalgeschichtlich. Die Studie setzt mit der Einführung europäischer psychiatrischer Konzepte und Diagnosepraktiken im Meiji-zeitlichen Japan an und zeigt auf, wie gesellschaftliche Hierarchien, institutionelle Zwänge und quantitative Methoden das Verständnis von Geisteskrankheiten weltweit nachhaltig geprägt haben.
