| Summary: | Even in enlightened liberal societies, punishment seems to be without any alternative. Yet the debate about alternatives to punishment and criminal law is as old as these institutions themselves. In recent years, a new social, legal, and sociological sensitivity to the issue has emerged, reigniting the debate.
The contributions in this volume take up this debate with the aim of promoting interdisciplinary exchange and raising awareness of the problem in theory and practice. Against this background, the topics covered include criticism of prisons, the controversy surrounding carceral feminism, and criticism of the police. The volume brings together different perspectives on criminal law between change and abolition of punishment, with a particular focus on alternatives in, to, and through criminal law. |
