| description | Poetry readings have become one of the most common ways to experience poetry, but what characterizes different forms of poetry readings and the places where they take place? What happens in the encounter between poet, text, and audience? And what kinds of communities can poetry readings help establish? These are some of the questions addressed in the book Poetry Reading: Forms and Communities. In addition to a thorough introduction to the phenomenon of poetry readings, the book offers studies of a well-established poetry festival, a poetry club in a café, a poetry slam community, as well as various forums for poetry readings on digital platforms and social media. In this way, it draws a broad picture of the many forms of poetry readings and of the significance that live poetry has for poets and their audiences. The book is the result of a research project funded by the Norwegian Arts Council and the Danish Arts Foundation. Louise Mønster (b. 1972), PhD and Associate Professor of Danish and Nordic literature at the Department of Culture and Learning, Aalborg University. Mønster has, among other works, published the monographs New Nordic: Poetry in the 21st Century (2016), Meeting Places: On Tomas Tranströmer’s & Henrik Nordbrandt’s Poetry (2013) and The Edifying Nature of Deconstruction: Literary Histories in 20th-Century Nordic Modernist Poetry (2009), as well as edited anthologies and written a large number of articles on Danish and Nordic poetry. Hans Kristian S. Rustad (b. 1973), PhD and Professor of Nordic literature at the Department of Linguistic and Nordic Studies, University of Oslo. Rustad wrote his dissertation on literary hypertexts (2008) and has, among other works, published the books Photopoetics: On Poetry and Photography in Norwegian Poetry (2017) and Digital Literature: An Introduction (2012), as well as edited a large number of books and written articles on Nordic poetry and digital fiction. Michael Kallesøe Schmidt (b. 1983), PhD in Danish literature, lecturer at Copenhagen Open Gymnasium and former postdoc on the project Nordic Poetry and Social Communities. Schmidt has published the monograph Author Poetics: A Genre History (2018), as well as edited anthologies and written articles on contemporary Danish literature, most recently Cybernetics and Romanticism: On Klaus Høeck’s Authorship (2021). |
