description The Sami have the status of an Indigenous people, and the nation-states Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia are obliged to facilitate that the Sami as an Indigenous people can preserve and develop their language, culture, and community life. This means, among other things, that all welfare professions in Norway must have basic knowledge of Sami conditions. Conversation is one of our most important tools as humans, but cultural differences and different norms such as politeness, hospitality, and child-rearing can be difficult to detect. This can contribute to misunderstandings and increased conflict. For the first time, a comprehensive, research-based knowledge base on Sami communication and conflict management is presented here.
