Whakarāpopototanga:This anthology contains contributions on the results of the conference ‘Reputation ohne Paywall’, which was organised by the Digital Publishing Working Group of the Digital Humanities Association in German-speaking countries in October 2024 in Darmstadt, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. The collected contributions develop new perspectives on the function, mode of operation and structure of reputation as a socio-cultural means of organisation in the scientific system against the backdrop of developments such as digital transformation and open access. On the one hand, the self-referentiality of the reputation system is discussed, which leads to a distortion of the supposedly reflected scientific performance and hinders structural innovation processes. On the other hand, alternative reputation models are designed and strategies developed on how open access actors can successfully position themselves in the current reputation system.
