The complex and thorny task of presenting the technology without taking sides is undertaken by the authors in seven chapters. The first two cover the historical aspects of fracking and its essential technological features. Chapters three and four offer an overview of the technology's economic aspects, beginning with its boom and discussing its cost and profitability. Chapter five is of particular interest as it examines the experiences of three Latin American oil-producing countries: Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. Chapters six and seven focus on the environmental aspects, and finally, a balance is struck between the pros and cons of the technology. As with any rapidly evolving issue, and considering the time frame in which such material is edited and published, it is evident that the authors' approach does not take into account aspects of the ever-changing reality in the oil industry. It is also possible to disagree with some points of view, but what is undeniable is that material is presented that cannot be ignored. |

La compleja y escabrosa tarea de presentar la tecnología sin tomar partido es acometida por los autores en 7 capítulos. Los dos primeros tratan los aspectos históricos del Fracking y sus aspectos tecnológicos esenciales. Los capítulos tres y cuatro permiten dar una mirada a los aspectos económicos de la tecnología, comenzando por el boom y comentando lo relativo a su costo y rentabilidad. El capítulo cinco es de especial interés pues se refiere a las experiencias en tres países productores de petróleo de América Latina: México, Argentina y Brasil. Los capítulos seis y siete se centran en los aspectos ambientales y finalmente se hace un balance de los pros y los contras de la tecnología. Como toda cuestión de rápida evolución y considerando los tiempos en los que se edita y publica un material, es evidente que el enfoque de los autores no considere aspectos de la siempre cambiante realidad en el mundo del petróleo.
